NAVA strives towards a eco-friendly, gender free society based on a equitable value base.

NAVA is a non-profit voluntary organisation initiated by a group of experienced social activists. NAVA is a journey in  search of development alternatives ,a common expression for development action of 13 Voluntary Organisations and 10 Associate Service Groups, across the country, who in a sprit of participation help in materialising the programmes.

NAVA is Registered under Societies Registration Act and FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act).

NAVA provides a common action platform for these groups through a continuous process of training, orientations and action perspectives. NAVA is not a funding body nor it provides financial assistance to any to groups.

The seed of NAVA was sown at a voluntary workers meet held on October 4, 1989 at Udayani Jesuit Training Centre, Calcutta. This meet mainly discussed on the need for joint efforts for the voluntary organizations and networking of small groups. It was felt that efforts would be initiated

- to take up training programmes for Human Resource Development promotion, and,

- for skill formation for voluntary workers. It was decided that  since NAVA is not a fund-based organization, the participating groups and friends would be requested to share their time for NAVA activities and also the groups requesting for the NAVA trainings should bear the necessary training expenses. About six months later NAVA was formally launched at a meeting held on 4 April, 1990 at Calcutta.

NAVA Programmes are six-fold, namely

-Training,
-Non-Formal Education,
-Workshops,
-Capacity Building,
-Health-Environment-Energy,and,
-Networking.
